Atom overview
Atom is a desktop text editor application based on web technologies. Like other desktop apps, it has its own icon in the dock, native menus and dialogs, and full access to the file system. Open the dev tools, however, and Atom's web-based core shines through. Whether you're tweaking the look of Atom's interface with CSS or adding major features with HTML and JavaScript, it's never been easier to take control of your editor.
At GitHub, we're building the text editor we've always wanted. A tool you can customize to do anything, but also use productively on the first day without ever touching a config file. Atom is modern, approachable, and hackable to the core. We can't wait to see what you build with it.
What’s new in version 1.63.1
This is the last release of Atom. We will be archiving Atom and all repositories under the Atom organization on December 15, 2022.

Yet again F'ing Microsoft take over anything that looks like competition and run it into the ground so it's RIP Atom, well my computer has no Microsoft crap on it now and it will stay that way as long as possible ...

I have been using it as an editor for HTML/JS/PHP. It does what it promises. The extension for Live Server work well too (only for HTML, not yet for PHP files). This is a great backup editor for Visual Studio Code.
